Is this the year that birth in this country takes a turn towards evidence based practices?
Is this the year that when a woman begins her pregnancy, that she will be offered options, choices and information that will help her to make informed decisions?
Could this be the year that a woman’s voice is heard when she questions the necessity of a test, a procedure, a comment? That she will be given an answer that is honest, researched-based and patient?
Will facts take prominence over fear? Will morbidity of mothers and babies finally be discussed?
Is this the time when birth doulas will grow in numbers; walk the pathway with women; be greeted with respect; and work in conjunction with other birth professionals to help create safe and sacred environments for new life to emerge?
As a birth assistant, I know, these answers will be yes
And you?

I am excited for this year! I can’t wait to attend the training here in Lincoln. I feel very optimistic when reading so much information coming down the line through all forms of media on the high induction and c-section rate. I am hopeful that the new health care bill will lean more towards evidence based practices. I can’t wait to join up with my fellow sisters/mothers in birthing babies in a low stress environment. Helping moms get the great empowerment that they deserve.
